PDS on SmartWay High Performer List for 2nd Year
Pacific Drayage Services (PDS), a member of the IMC’s family of brands, was named to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) SmartWay High Performer Lists for the second consecutive year. Named specifically to the Dray Truck Carriers List, this list recognizes PDS as one among thousands of SmartWay Transport Partners for performing and providing more efficient and sustainable supply chain transportation solutions.
The EPA measures drayage carriers for emissions of particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), submitted annually. Data is aggregated into five performance ranges and those top-ranked carriers are included in the SmartWay High Performer List. Those included represent just 15 percent of overall SmartWay drayage carriers.
PDS attributes its inclusion in the prestigious list to the purchase of 50 new low emission trucks along with six electric tractors in 2022, with more to come in 2023. These tractors are equipped with technology to reduce emissions as well as increase truck efficiency.
Jim Gillis, president of PDS says, “These trucks allow for cleaner movements and a greener footprint. This is just the beginning of PDS’ goal of complete carbon neutrality by 2028.”
PDS will deploy the electric trucks to their fleet on the west coast, particularly in the Southern California market. “Our investment in assets for PDS was made to proactively address the ever-increasing cargo volume.”
PDS looks forward to continued enactment of their pilot program with Volvo Electric Trucks this year, and in the future. “It is important to us to continue to add capacity in a responsible manner that protects the environment,” says Gillis.
